My Reflection
In this task I had to write a letter to my Year 6 teacher for next year. I found this tricky beacuse I had a hard time thinking of something that I needed help with. My next steps are to make my letter longer.

14 October 2019

Dear Mrs Melville,

My name is Sophie from Elm Park School. I am writing to say thank you for organizing the trip to Tiritiri Matangi.

Something that surprised me was that on the back of the Silver Fern it was actually silver. I thought just because it was called a Silver Fern didn’t mean it was actually silver.

My visit to Tiritiri Matangi has taught me a lot about nature. For example, I learnt that Tuis like to eat the nectar of Kowhai trees. I will definitely visit again with my family. Thank you for making this trip possible.

Yours Sincerely,

Sophie Pan

Reflection
I had to write a thank you letter to a teacher, volunteer or parent helper for making this trip possible. I found this easy because I really enjoyed the trip and I had a lot to write about. My next steps are to  write to a parent helper or volunteer.

Tiritiri Matangi Bird Research

Compare And Contrast

My Reflection
In this activity I had to compare the two bird's similarities and differences. I found this hard because when I found some information about one bird I couldn't find out if the other bird had that information as well.  My next steps are to try and find more than just seven pieces of information for each section.

Summarising Article

My Reflection
I have been learning to summarise information. I summarised and article from Kiwi Kids News. I found this tricky because the article didn't have all of the information I needed for example, how did it happen and it didn't describe the exact place it happened. My next step is to try and use more of my own words in the activity.

Converting Improper To Mixed Fractions

My Reflection
I was learning to convert improper fractions to mixed numbers using my multiplication facts. I had to explain what a mixed, proper and improper fraction is, and explain the answer to the problem as an improper fraction and a mixed fraction. I thought it was easy because I learnt lots about fractions at home that helped me to understand this activity better. My next step is to divide the numerator by the denominator.

Paragraph Writing

My Reflection
I have been learning to write paragraphs with a topic sentence, some supporting details and a closing sentence to finish it off. I have been writing paragraphs about the native New Zealand bird, the Fantail. I found this hard because I had to use my own words instead of copying other people's work.

Summarising Information

My Reflection
I have been learning to find and summarise information by choosing the most important information. I found this interesting because I couldn't believe that an animal could actually recognise it's own name. I found summarising the information easy because I am good at finding information from texts most of the time. My next step is to not add too much information that isn't important.

Summarising Important Information

My Reflection
I have been learning to find and summarise information by choosing the most important information.
I found this interesting because I never knew that Sir Edmund Hillary got knighted by Queen Elizabeth after he climbed Mount Everest. I found summarising information tricky because I didn't know how to describe why he deserves to be on the $5 note. My next step is to practice summarising information using more important facts.

Summaring

My Reflection
I am learning to summarise a text. It was tricky to write the sentences in my own words. I had to think carefully when I was doing this. My next learning step is to use what I learnt about summarising and try to do this with other texts.

Identifying Parts of a Graph

My reflection
I am learning to identify the parts of a graph. It was easy because I watched a slide and I had a good example to refer to. My next learning step is to create a graph with data that I collect.
